HUNGARY – IFKA

070213

Reference flow in the MFA for which is suitable the technology

Waste plastic (070213)

Incoming input

High-performance solar cells and recycled plastic for frame.

Outgoing output

Durable solar paving elements, which locally generate clean (green) energy.

Technology description

Solar panels are built in the pavement, which have high strength and anti-slip glass tiles. The elements connect modularly and electrical wiring is built in the units.

Organizative processes to support closing the loops

The waste plastic could be cheap resource for this Hungarian startup (who produce the solar paving elements). They want to speed up their expansion and they need continous incoming flow. Because of these reasons, they can develop the processing technology or build out their new production line for this secondary raw material.

Practitioners opinion

The product what might be created out of the analyzed waste stream is a great combination of renewable energy and urban development. Unlike other in-pavement integrated renewable energy technologies, this is easy to install and maintain, since it does not require a special foundation and also it is modularly upgradeable with several further smart functions.

Possible limiting factors

The waste plastic is generated a large amount (4200 tons/year) in all the attempts this was a hindering issue. The other limiting factor is the PVC content of the waste plastic.

PP’s opinion of the technology

No data available.

Concept and conclusions how the technology can affect the CE effect

Instead of the incineration (energy recovery), we can move on to the waste hierarchy (recycling). If this industrial symbiosis is realized, less primary resources will be used, so the waste and costs will be reduced.

Is the technology a BAT?

No data available. We do not know the detailed technological process.
